Men and women can lose up to one hundred shafts of hair in one day. This number may not sound significant to many but there are certain conditions and sometimes ailments that can dramatically increase the amount of hair you lose on a daily basis.

In fact, there are cases where people go from losing 100 shafts of hair to losing 300 shafts in a single day. The number without a doubt is surprising, considering that it happens on a daily basis. But what are the reasons for sudden loss of hair? Some reasons can be natural and happen due to genetics but sometimes there are health issues associated with it.

Severe stress is one of the most common causes of hair loss. No, it will not be because you were yanking your hair out of frustration though that could be a cause too, instead it happens because of the stress itself which is known as telogen effluvium.

Various stressful episodes can produce this. From the death of a loved one, a break up, loss of a job or job frustrations as well as depression. Other causes include: quick weight loss, child birth, menopause and oral contraceptives.

Basically, the hair loss occurs because of the extreme hormonal disposition happening throughout the person's body. Do keep in mind that this isn't a permanent condition but rather a hair loss incident. The person's hair would start growing normally again after the stress levels are reduced.

Another one of the common causes of sudden hair loss would be Androgenetic Alopecia. This type of hair loss can be attributed to hormonal imbalances as well as genetics. It is one of the most well known, male pattern baldness and it can occur in both men and women.

At the moment, cures do not exist for this kind of hair loss and when the person's hair is lost; there is a good probability that hair will never grow from that particular follicle again. However, there are solutions to help curb a person's hair loss that are caused by genetic and hormonal reasons.

Among the hair loss solutions you can use is Minoxidil which is available over the counter without a need for a prescription. It's a topical solution that needs to be massaged through the hair every single day.

Lastly, Anagen effluvium is another reason for sudden hair loss and it is considered to be one of the worst. Basically, it is caused by the poisoning of hair follicles that subsequently divide rapidly in order to grow hair strands and this causes a rather instant and significant shedding of hair.

Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy as well as radiation therapy can cause this because they attack the rapidly splitting as well as growing cells which includes cancer cells. Unfortunately, one of the fastest dividing cells in our body are the hair cells which make them an immediate target for these cancer treatments.

If you are encountering hair loss, don't lose hope. Treatments are usually available out there that may help bring back your lost hair or at the very least, halt the hair loss problem. The only step to take now is to find the correct one, for you.
